Seasonal Flu Vaccinations
It is important for eligible patients (over 65's and patients with specific clinical conditions) to have a flu vaccination.
Flu (influenza) is a highly infectious illness caused by a virus. It spreads rapidly through small droplets coughed or sneezed into the air by an infected person. For most people, flu is unpleasant but not serious. You will usually recover within a week. However, for those who are older or vulnerable, flu can be a serious illness.
Studies have shown that flu vaccines provide effective protection, although protection may not be complete and may vary between people. Protection from the vaccine gradually decreases and flu strains change over time. Therefore, new vaccines are made each year and people at risk of flu are encouraged to be vaccinated annually.
Flu Clinics 2022/23
We will be providing clinics from September 2022 onwards for all patients over 65 years and all patients who are deemed at higher risk from complications of flu. Patients aged 50-64 who are well and do not have a long term illness will not be eligible for a free flu vaccination this year.
We will provide more information about clinics nearer the time.
